Employee Free Choice Act

The recent introduction of the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) in the House of Representatives and the United States Senate has ignited what promises to be one of the most contentious and fierce debates in Congress. While EFCA's fate is uncertain, the legal maneuvering and the political positioning of EFCA and its "impact" on the American worker has already begun.

What we know:

  • While the American workforce is critical of organized labor unions, they are far more critical of corporate America.
  • American workers have very little knowledge of the pending labor union legislation... and ample opportunities exist for organized labor and/or the business community to sway public opinion in support of or against EFCA.

Organized Labor Union Awareness and Perception Study

Organized labor unions and the Employee Free Choice Act were a frequently discussed and debated topic during the 2008 presidential campaign. President Barack Obama has publicly supported organized labor unions and the newly introduced act.

Does the American workforce feel the same? Does the American workforce believe the existence of organized labor unions helps or hinders the United States in today's economic climate?

To answer these questions, Strata Research, Inc. conducted the Organized Labor Union Awareness and Perception Study. This survey provides an in-depth understanding of how the American workforce perceives organized labor unions today; how that perception impacts their opinion of the Employee Free Choice Act; and, most notably, where opportunities exist to sway opinion.
